We’ve all been there… we meet an ignorant man who tells us who says that women have reached equality, and that we should be thankful that we didn’t live in the 1950s…

This is the most aggravating situation, and it can often leave you speechless, unable to respond and thus allowing the other person to believe they are correct (SMH)

Love Island is a popular TV show in the UK, and something I’ve never watched because I knew its sexist and heterosexual framework would give me a headache. After deciding to watch one episode I thought I was going to have a migraine after one guy said women has reached equality because our country has a woman Prime Minister. Like we’ve all experienced, the girl who he was having the conversation with was so shocked she could hardly respond.

Inspired by these incidences, I have come up with a few sentences to use when faced in this situation… Hopefully they are helpful

·         “If women have reached equality, why are 1 in 5 women sexually assaulted or raped compared to 1 in 71 men…?”

·         “If women aren’t objectified, how many male models can you name?”

·         “If women are equal, why are men not forced to attain particular beauty standards… how many men do you know who feel obliged to wear make-up?”

·          “If women have reached equality why do we have to pay tampon tax but you get free condoms?”

·         “If women have reached equality, why are their more C.E.Os named John alone than women C.E.Os?”

It’s hard enough trying to cope with inequality and sexism and then constantly have to prove its existence.
